AIGNER AWARDS LICENSE: High Point Knitting has signed a two-year licensing agreement to develop and distribute a line of socks and tights under the Etienne Aigner label. The 46-piece collection will be unveiled during March market at High Point’s showroom at 1350 Broadway, New York. Wholesale prices will range from $1.80 for anklets to $8 for tights.
Known for its handbags, shoes and accessories, Etienne Aigner has never offered licensed legwear, according to Deborah Racicot, vice president merchandising and sales for High Point.
Projected volume for the first year is $1 million, she said.
RENFRO GOES ASPEN: Renfro Corp., a Mount Airy, N.C.-based sock manufacturer, has acquired a three-year license from Aspen Licensing International to produce, market and distribute women’s socks under the Aspen label.
Available in four styles, the cotton and nylon socks will carry the Aspen trademark. The ribbed and textured socks will be offered in black, white, natural, hunter, red and denim.
Renfro plans to target the line at mass merchants, according to Barbara Owens, assistant brand manager.
“The brand is a perfect fit for the outdoor-oriented looks that are so important in the casual sock market,” she said. In addition to its private label business, Renfro also produces women’s socks under the licensed labels Gitano, Sasson, X-Am, Vassarette, Gloria Vanderbilt, Bonnie Doon and ABC Wide World of Sports. Based in West Palm Beach, Fla., Aspen International approached Renfro because of the company’s “tremendous distribution in the mass market,” according to Allan Metsky, president.
“We want to be the national rugged brand for the mass market,” he said. “There is a huge void to be filled in this value-driven market by the outdoor looks with the Aspen brand.”
