HATS AHOY: Straw Hat Week, the annual event that the millinery industry stages during the spring season, will take place this year on April 2-9. The event will feature its usual roster of designer appearances and promotional events at stores in New York.
The Millinery Information Bureau, which organizes the program, is also planning a benefit party slated to take place April 6 at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola in New York. The party will raise funds for an organization called Share, which aids women with cancer, and chairpersons include Nicole Miller, Bess Myerson and Leo Castelli. l
CHANEY TO BE HONORED: Tiffany & Co. chief executive officer William Chaney will receive the Good Corporate Citizen Award at the annual Big Apple Greeter recognition breakfast on May 3 in New York.
Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani is scheduled to present the award, which is given each year to honor a company that has shown a strong commitment to the city. The Big Apple Greeter program was started in 1992 to bolster tourism and economic development and enhance the image of the city. It has a network of over 500 volunteers who host free neighborhood walks throughout the boroughs to tourists from around the world.
Chase Manhattan Bank is underwriting the event, which will take place at One Chase Manhattan Plaza.
