“Goodness,” said Galen Weston to his wife, Hilary, as they walked into a party for the opening of their Brown Thomas department store in Dublin. “It must be a slow night somewhere.”
More than 1,000 well-wishers, including Irish Prime Minister John Bruton, former Prime Minister Charles Haughey, and the Westons’ daughter Alannah were milling about.
Desmond Guinness, squiring his granddaughter Jasmine, said, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many beautiful women under one roof in Dublin.”
At least one woman in the crowd was walking about much more confidently. Britt Ekland phoned the store several hours earlier in need of one item to complete her outfit for the evening: a Wonderbra.
