JOHN WALLACE KAINE
NEW YORK — Services for John Wallace (Wally) Kaine, who served as an executive director of the Textile Distributors Association in addition to having a long career in the military, were held Saturday in Mineola, N.Y.
Kaine, 79, died Thursday at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola following a lengthy illness, according to his daughter, Carol Kaine Lucas.
Prior to his post at the TDA, which he held from 1974 until 1988, Kaine held executive posts at Cone Mills and Conso Products, a manufacturer of trimmings.
Kaine also spent 37 years in the Army, rising from private to major general. He was commander of New York’s 77th Infantry Division of the Army Reserve. He retired from the military in 1972.
“Wally was a highly respected, hardworking man, totally dedicated to the TDA,” said Bruce Roberts, the association’s current executive director. “He’ll be missed by many of his old friends.”
In addition to his daughter, Kaine is survived by his wife, Helen; a son, Jay, and eight grandchildren.
