SOUTH BEACH SAVAGES
South Beach in Miami is swarming with scenemakers this time of year, and last weekend brought them all out to one party or another.
Madonna, Elton John and Sylvester Stallone were among those who stopped by a dinner at Gianni Versace’s house before Gianni’s clan headed over to a party the designer hosted at Warsaw.
Egon von Furstenburg also hosted a dinner at home, for 50 friends and relatives, and Tara Solomon threw a New Year’s Resolution party for Beverly Peele on Sunday.
But the trendiest tribe of muscle boys and fashion babes was at the Century hotel on New Year’s Eve. The “Savages of the Century” party was held in the hotel’s new beach club and came with a curious dress code: cave couture, spring/summer 1,995,000 B.C.
Oribe, in town to open a South Beach salon next week, and his team of stylists, set up shop in the lobby to help guests with their entrance-making, prehistoric hair.
The nearly 1,000 guests included Thierry Mugler, Kenny and Tereza Scharf, Terence Stamp, Christopher Ciccone, Alix Malka, Myriam Schaefer, Beatriz de Borbon, Holly Solomon, Patricia Field, Michael Kostiff and the team from Ghost.
“There are so many people around town that we’d love to see strip down,” said Century co-owner David Colby, wearing a pair of fake leopard skin chaps with matching cap. “So we try to pick a theme that will help them expose themselves.”
