A story on page 12, July 5, incorrectly reported that the ILGWU had made campaign contributions to members of Congress who voted for the North American Free Trade Agreement. The story was based on Federal Election Commission reports covering 1993 and 1994, which did not give the date the contributions were received. Evelyn Dubrow, legislative director of the ILGWU, said the contributions cited in the story were made before the NAFTA vote. Dubrow added that the union is abiding by its general executive board’s resolution that no money will go this election year to congressional incumbents who voted for NAFTA. However, she said, the union will not work to defeat pro-NAFTA incumbents who support the ILGWU on other matters and union members are being advised that they may work for these incumbents’ campaigns if they so desire.
