ALBANY — Target Stores might be opening in New York State, perhaps as soon as 1996.
Sources said the discount division of Dayton Hudson Corp., Minneapolis, is looking at sites here, in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Middletown. Poughkeepsie and Long Island are also possible locations, the sources said.
A Target spokeswoman said the company is “looking around [in New York], and certainly interested, but no deals have been made.”
Target is the nation’s third largest discounter, behind Wal-Mart Stores and Kmart Corp. Most of its stores are in the Midwest and West.
