GREENSBORO, N.C. — Design students got a chance to show off their computer know-how when the Computer Integrated Textile Design Association held its first annual design competition at the Koury Convention Center here recently.
Students from 12 schools submitted a total of 87 entries created on programs that ranged from industry-specific to off-the-shelf packages. Contestants were required to develop, using computer software, three original designs intended for textiles.
Charlotte Lee, of the Rhode Island School of Design, took top honors in the home furnishings category. Janine Lopez and Gina Valenti, both of Buffalo State University, took second and third place, respectively.
In the apparel category, Cheng Hwa Lee, of the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science, took first place. Pamela Palko, also of PCT&S, took second. Amelia Henderson of RISD was third.
The judges were Jim Short, director of design at Milliken Carpet; Margaret Hanak, director of sportswear styling at Cone Mills Marketing; and Margaret Coffin, vice-president of merchandising at C&A Mastercraft.
The competition was held concurrently with CITDA’s annual covention.
