NEW YORK — Georgette Klinger has found inspiration in the oceans for a new skin care line, Sea Extracts.
Klinger’s eight salons sold about 2,000 units of the treatment line in the first two weeks after its May introduction, according to Kathryn Klinger, president. She said sales of Sea Extracts should hit $1 million in its first year.
Sea Extracts is formulated with sea lipids, sea nutrients and marine plant filtrates, which the company claims improve the skin’s smoothness and firmness and diminish the appearance of fine lines. The ingredients are freeze-dried, Klinger said, to maintain their freshness and chemistry.
“People want things from the environment, things that are natural,” she said, noting that the marine-based products are part of the same trend that generated alpha-hydroxy acids from fruit.
The range consists of a 2-oz. moisturizer for $27, a 1-oz. eye cream for $26.50 and a 2-oz. night cream for $35.
“This I would recommend to anybody who is dry and sensitive,” Klinger said. “It has a really good texture when applied to the skin.”
Although the company is not advertising the new line, Klinger said that the salons are featuring the products in their windows and incorporating the items in facials as a way of introducing them to customers.
“Usually people who come to us will buy the products because they believe in us,” Klinger said.
