JOHN REIER NAMED PRES., OPERATING OFFICER AT FAMILY DOLLAR
NEW YORK — Family Dollar Stores has named John D. Reier president and chief operating officer. He succeeds Peter J. Hayes, who resigned in April.
Reier, who also was named a director, was the company’s senior vice president for merchandising and advertising, a position he had held since 1987. He reports to Leon Levine, chairman and chief executive officer, who had assumed the responsibilities of president and chief operating officer since Hayes’s resignation.
Family Dollar, which operates 2,264 stores, said Reier plans to oversee the firm’s move to an everyday low-price merchandising strategy and its attempt to reduce operating expenses.
