Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell and Elle Macpherson have a lot more in common these days than long legs and beautiful faces. The three have just signed on as partners in a new restaurant, Fashion Cafe, which is scheduled to open in New York’s Rockefeller Center Plaza late this winter. Tommaso Buti, who is married to Daniela Pestova, and his brother, Francesco Buti, are steering the development of the 15,000-square-foot eatery. Billed as a theme restaurant, along the lines of Hard Rock Cafe or Planet Hollywood, Fashion Cafe is expected to be a visual stunner with lots of high-tech special effects. Michael LeClere, who designed the Warner Bros. Studio Store on 57th Street, is on board to design the new restaurant, and those who did the audio/visual and lighting effects for Warner Bros. are also involved. In the meantime, Schiffer is following in Campbell’s footsteps with her own book. But don’t expect a novella from the Nineties Bardot. Schiffer’s tome is called “Souvenirs et Confidences” (“Memories and Confidences”) and is more like a family album, full of snaps showing her childhood in Germany up to present day, including cozy shots of her and her magician fiancé, David Copperfield. The text throughout consists of the supermodel’s thoughts. The book is being published in France by Editions Numero I and will come out on Nov. 15. Reed Books has bought the rights to distribute the book in the U.S. and England, but no publication date has been confirmed.
