A moderate case of designer gridlock hit Manhattan on Sunday. While a lot of the fashion pack attended the Kids for Kids pediatric AIDS benefit, Victor Alfaro, Byron Lars, Bradley Bayou, Cynthia Rowley, Kathryn Dianos and Yeohlee all turned out for the Partnership for the Homeless benefit performance of “Show Boat,” with a party afterward at the New York Hilton, hosted by Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward.
Robert Altman sure wants the fashion community to take “Pret-a-Porter” seriously. In the last several months, the director has dropped into more than a handful of the fashion industry’s hottest parties, and on Saturday, while looking on from the wings, he had fashion photog Patrick Demarchelier shoot the film’s print ad campaign. Altman spared no expense — Helena Christensen and Tatjana Patitz were hired to pose with two of the film’s model-actors in Demarchelier’s New York studio.
What’s the smokin’ new accessory in Hollywood? The cigar. Bruce Willis, Demi Moore, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman all shared one the other night at the after-after party for “Pulp Fiction” at Gabriel’s restaurant on the West Side. And what’s the first stop for Hollywood types when they get to New York? Barneys’ Madison Avenue store. On a bustling Saturday afternoon, even jaded Manhattan heads turned on practically every floor, as Nicole Kidman — with baby and nanny — and Goldie Hawn, in a bare purple slip dress and no bra — cruised the store for shoes, clothes and jewelry.
In addition to Fergie and Hillary, Barbara Davis has landed another biggie for her Carousel Ball on Oct. 28 in Beverly Hills. Tom Hanks will present the First Lady with the Brass Ring award. Davis grabbed him on the beach in Malibu and asked him to do the honors.
