NEW YORK — H. James Metschner has been named president of Liz Claiborne Retail at Liz Claiborne Inc.
Metschner had been president of the firm’s First Issue stores, which, as reported, are being phased out. In his new post, Metschner will oversee all aspects of the firm’s Liz Claiborne, Elisabeth and Dana Buchman stores as well as the shutting down of First Issue and the conversion of a number of its locations to other company-operated retail formats.
As retail president, he takes the place of Allen McNeary, who left Claiborne in September. Metschner will report directly to Jerome A. Chazen, Claiborne chairman.
Metschner joined Claiborne in 1993 as First Issue president. Earlier, he was vice president of product development at Talbots.
