WARNACO’S LAUNCH: The Warnaco Group will reintroduce an updated version of one of its original Merry Widow corsets by Warner’s in fall 1995. Distribution will be worldwide, said Linda J.Wachner, president, chairman and chief executive officer.
The Merry Widow with padded, push-up cups will feature a black and gray chantilly lace print on a ground of pale pink nylon tricot.
“The Warner’s name is over 100 years old, and this will definitely reflect the history of the brand,” said Wachner. This is part of Warnaco’s plans for other international product launches. The firm introduced its Not So Innocent Nudes line of molded, seamless bras and panties in cosmetic body tones to Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom this summer. The firm will also stage a worldwide launch of women’s underwear and sleepwear and men’s underwear under the Calvin Klein name early next year. Earlier this year, Warnaco acquired Calvin Klein men’s underwear and, effective Jan. 1, the worldwide trademarks for women’s innerwear and men’s accessories.
PETERS TO BE HONORED: Janet J. Peters will be honored at a dinner and fashion show Nov. 16 by the Fashion Crafts Educational Commission and advisory board of the High School of Fashion Industries.
The event will be held at 6 p.m. at The Union League Club at 38 East 37th St. here. Peters is vice president of the private label division of Vanity Fair Mills and a corporate vice president of VF Corp.
Sol Romano, committee chairman of the Fashion Crafts advisory board, said Peters will receive an award and a gift for her support of the school’s students. Peters has made internships and part- and full-time jobs at Vanity Fair available to the students for several years, he said.
WACOAL TAPS FISHER: Alan J. Fisher has been named vice president of merchandising at Wacoal America Inc., reporting to John Bowman, corporate vice president of sales and merchandising.
Fisher succeeds Nancy Fishman, who left the company in August. Fisher had been vice president of merchandising since 1984 for the intimate apparel division of Kellwood Co., overseeing sleepwear. Earlier, he had been vice president of merchandising at Formfit Rogers for 10 years.
A successor will not be named at Kellwood, said Cecilia Post, senior vice president of the sleepwear and panties operation at Kellwood. Post said the position is being redefined as the operation increases its design staff.
