JUDGE TO RULE QUICKLY IN MAY CO. CASE
NEW YORK — A federal judge in Rochester, N.Y., after a four-day hearing to determine if May Department Stores Co.’s proposed purchase of four McCurdy’s units would violate state antitrust laws, said late Wednesday he would make a decision as quickly as possible.
Judge David G. Larimer gave May and New York State Attorney General G. Oliver Koppell until Nov. 22 to file additional papers on the issue.
As reported, Koppell filed suit to block the purchase of the McCurdy’s stores on the grounds that it would give May a retail monopoly in the area. May would operate the four mall locations under its Kaufmann’s name.
