ATLANTA — The Atlanta Apparel Mart has shifted the dates of its fall market next year to April 6-10.
Originally the market was scheduled for April 20-25, but that coincides with Freaknik, an annual college spring break event that attracts more than 200,000 college students to the city.
Peg Canter, director of the Atlanta Apparel Mart, said she felt changing the date was a necessity. “With Freaknik going on and the college students doing what college students do — which is partying — I don’t think it would enable us to offer the kind of hospitality we like to offer,” she said.
As the new dates include Palm Sunday weekend, one of the busiest shopping periods for children’s wear retailers, the Mart will also host a special children’s wear pre-market from March 25-27 to provide those retailers with an additional opportunity to shop. The April market will include children’s wear as well. The mart has arranged for special hotel rates for the pre-market.
“We realize this isn’t the best possible date, but it does provide retailers with a chance to see fall early,” said Canter.
