GUCCI PROMOTES DE SOLE TO CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
MILAN — Domenico De Sole has been promoted to chief operating officer of Gucci, and Brian Blake has been named to succeed him as president of Gucci America, the U.S. unit of the Florence-based luxury goods house.
De Sole, 50, who joined Gucci as a director at Gucci America in 1981, has been president of the U.S. unit since the fall of 1984. This spring, however, he relocated to Florence, and while keeping his U.S. post, took over responsibilities for merchandising and production that had been held by Dawn Mello. Mello left Gucci in April to become president of Bergdorf Goodman. De Sole now oversees Gucci’s worldwide operations.
Blake, 38, with Gucci since May 1987, has been vice president of Gucci America. In his new post, he reports directly to Gucci chairman William Flanz.
