CALMART JUICES MARKET WEEK ENTERTAINMENT
LOS ANGELES — The “most improved” award goes to the CaliforniaMart’s fashion show, usually a ho-hum runway recitation from paying resources.
This time, buzz started days earlier during dress rehearsals in the mart lobby with dancers garbed as fluttery, deconstructed fairies a la “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
By showtime Friday night, the crowd was standing room only, warmed up by performances from an ethereal stilt walker, two Adonis-like contortionists and a rhythmic gymnast flipping clubs and tossing hoops.
VIPs, ensconced on plush couches up front, took in interludes of dance along with merch ranging from Tamara Catz’s Missoni-inspired knits to Mandalay’s dashing, Russian embroidered coat.
Afterward, CalMart’s Trish Moreno, who produced the show with choreographer Danny Teeson, got a bearhug from Dallas Market Center ceo Bill Winsor, who also oversees CalMart.
“I want to end forever that comment that it’s ‘just another CalMart show,”‘ Moreno said.
