LUCKY, ITOCHU IN JAPAN DEAL
LOS ANGELES — Lucky Brand Dungarees is heading to Japan. The company announced Monday it has signed a distribution deal with Tokyo-based Itochu Fashion Systems.
Starting in the fall, Lucky apparel will be carried in 30 department and specialty stores in Japan. Lucky Brand executive vice president Trent Merrill projected the number of doors will double in 2003, including the addition of stand-alone retail units. Over the past five years, the denim brand has advertised in Japan and sold to a handful of stores there, Merrill said, but this deal marks the first organized push into the Japanese market. Lucky is owned by Liz Claiborne Inc.
