ULTRASUEDE’S EUROPEAN FLAIR
Byline: Daniela Gilbert
NEW YORK — It’s a step beyond Halston’s UltraSuede. After enjoying a revival a few years back, Toray UltraSuede has taken its trademark fabric one step further with the European Collection, a new line designed, produced and finished by an Italian affiliate, Alcantra. The four-group collection is a new direction for the company and the realization of its globalization efforts as well.
Wendy S. Medina, marketing and sales manager at Toray’s apparel division said the new collection stands out for its “level of fashion, versatility, elegance and innovation…We saw a real need for it.”
The first of the four groups, Androgynous, focuses on double-faced items, some of which feature faux fur. More neutral in tone, the group also includes denim-like looks in orange, brown, green and blue.
The second group, Channel Surf, includes a variety of quilting effects and graphic prints.
The third, Illumination, is more subdued with foiling effects that create a slight iridescence. The group also includes laminated herringbones in green, brown and burgundy, as well as tonal florals with and without shine.
The last grouping, Transparency, features a selection of lasered open work, many of which resemble knits. Most notable in this group is a floral print with a top pleated UltraSuede. The group’s palette includes cool flesh tones, as well as blue, gray, brown and orange.
Here, a look at some of the highlights of the new line.
