STELLA HITS THE ROOF: Stella McCartney’s al fresco shower is causing a furor in London’s hip Notting Hill neighborhood. The designer has erected a 6-foot-high fence to enclose the shower on the roof deck of her $5.5 million home. Her neighbors however, are less than impressed with what they say is an eyesore — and now local authorities are investigating. “It’s quite a sight,” said a spokeswoman for the Westminster Council, which is expected to deliver its verdict in two weeks. A spokesman for McCartney declined to comment.
SHALL WE FRANCER? It looks like Istvan Francer will succeed Roberto Menichetti as the new designer at Cerruti. Sources in Europe said Francer is now the leading candidate for the job, vacant since Menichetti exited in March after only six months with the company. Cerruti’s owners, Fin.part, declined to comment on the mounting speculation about Francer, but president Gianluigi Facchini had acknowledged in these columns March 4 that Francer was “surely an option.” Francer already designs Maska and a signature line for Fin.part. With the men’s shows looming in Milan in June, the house is said to be eager to put someone in place.
SANDER SEQUEL: Talk that Jil Sander and Prada’s Patrizio Bertelli might be ready for a commercial reunion is reaching a boil — again. As reported, last week there was word that the Prada chief executive might be negotiating with the designer for a return to the house she founded. But speculation gained a few more degrees Monday with news from industry sources that Akito Okuda, Sander’s assistant for seven years, has left leatherwear specialist Hettabretz after he was tapped to revamp the line last season. Perhaps there’s a line of German origin and Italian parentage in which he might be interested.
