Leave it to a New York girl to inject a dose of laid-back style to Los Angeles’ overblown red carpets. To the premiere of “High Crimes,” Amanda Peet wore a silvery banded Prada dress in silk wool with chiffon inlays. (“It looks like the Chrysler building,” she said.) A few nights later, Peet turned up in Marc Jacobs’ brushed velvet pants and gold jacket to the premiere of “Changing Lanes.” Tina Chai, Peet’s good friend and stylist, says, “Amanda likes feminine, ethereal, pretty things. L.A. is about dressing sexy, but for her, that’s not the objective.” Peet concurs: “It’s so much nicer to be slouchy. I’m just never going to be one of those really tan, blond, big-boobed girls, so I figure I ought to not dress like one. But the real truth is that I wear whatever Tina tells me to do.”
