KASPER TAPS PARSONS AS CFO
Byline: Eric Wilson
NEW YORK — Joseph B. Parsons was named executive vice president and chief financial officer of Kasper ASL on Monday, joining his former Donna Karan International colleague John Idol, who became chief executive officer last July.
Parsons worked for DKI for nine years and was named cfo in 1996. He was promoted to chief financial and operations officer in 2000, but left the firm in November during its transfer to ownership by LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton. Tisha Kalberer, formerly cfo of Giorgio Armani Corp., was named from within the LVMH Fashion and Leather Goods Group to succeed Parsons under LVMH’s umbrella.
While Kasper is currently operating under a prepackaged Chapter 11 reorganization plan, Idol said he was looking to Parsons’ management approach as an important tool in the company’s efforts to return to profitability. He will be responsible for all financial aspects of the company, as well as its management information systems.
Laura Lentini, vice president and controller, and Myron Melnick, vice president and chief information officer, will report to Parsons. Gwen Gepfert, who was previously cfo of Kasper, left the company last June, during the beginning of a transition of management from company founder Arthur S. Levine to a team put together by Idol.
Idol settled a long-standing dispute last week with LVMH over his severance package, recouping a package estimated to be close to the $12.2 million that he was originally promised. While neither party has commented on the circumstances surrounding the settlement, sources close to the deal have indicated Idol has promised not to recruit additional senior level employees from DKI’s ranks.
