NEW YORK — Vera Wang isn’t one to indulge in excessive sparkle and shine, and for fall, she did evening her way. Working in an all-black palette, Wang focused on the juxtaposition of texture and detail. A chiffon blouse with a removable pleated silk jabot, for example, was paired with a ruffled tulle skirt, while slim pants with intricately worked lattice details were accented with rich velvet sashes. Her fencing vests were standouts, particularly when paired with tuxedo pants or a gorgeous georgette gown with ruffled details on the back. But perhaps the strongest element was the emphasis on the waist and neckline: Swarovski crystal-encrusted belts sparked skirts or long gowns, and little capelets in fur, organza or quilted taffeta were worn over dresses or tops, adding a Victorian feel.
