TALBOTS TAPS MURPHY AS VP, APPAREL GMM

NEW YORK — Rosemary Murphy has been promoted to vice president and general merchandise manager of apparel at Talbots Inc.
Murphy will oversee, for both stores and catalog, women’s apparel categories including option sportswear, blouses, casualwear, sweaters, dresses, outerwear and collection. She was director of merchandising for petite apparel.
Murphy joined Talbots in 1990 as sportswear buyer and was promoted to director of sportswear later that year. She became director of merchandising for jewelry, fashion accessories, legwear, scarves, bath and body and gifts before receiving her most recent assignment in the petite area.
She succeeds and reports to Cinny Murray, who, as reported, was promoted to senior vice president of merchandising in January. Earlier this month, Krissy Blakeway joined Talbots in the new post of senior vice president of product development.
In a statement, chairman, president and chief executive Arnold Zetcher, noted, Murphy’s “knowledge of our customer and merchandise mix comes from over 11 years of hands-on experience at Talbots and we are delighted to add her leadership to our senior merchandise team.”
Based in Hingham, Mass., Talbots operates 810 specialty stores, including 206 Talbots Petites locations in the U.S., and has catalog and Web site operations.
