NEW YORK — Shiseido has reshuffled its senior management team, promoting Isao Isejima to the newly created position of corporate officer and director, chief officer of the international sales division of Shiseido Co. Ltd., and promoting Hiroshi Maruyama to fill many of Isejima’s old responsibilities.
Isejima, who had been chairman and chief executive officer of Shiseido for the Americas and Europe, will retain his current responsibilities of overseeing sales in American and European markets and will add those of Asia, with the exception of Japan. While he had been based in the U.S., in his new role, Isejima will be based in the firm’s corporate headquarters in Tokyo.
Additionally, Isejima, who joined the company in 1970, will continue to be a board member and oversee the Aura Science project, a joint-venture cosmetics and skin care brand expected to become a $1 billion business that was conceived by Shiseido and The Limited Inc.’s Intimate Beauty Corp. The first Aura Science store opened this month at the Easton Town Center in Columbus, Ohio.
Maruyama, previously executive vice president of corporate planning for Shiseido regional headquarters of the Americas and chairman of both Nars Cosmetics Inc. and Zirh International Corp., has assumed the position of chairman and ceo of Shiseido Regional Headquarters, the Americas and Shiseido Cosmetics (America) Ltd., as well as chairman of Zotos International, Inc. Heidi Manheimer, president of Shiseido’s U.S. Operations, will now report to Maruyama for the Shiseido, Cle de Peau Beaute and Qiora brands.
Maruyama’s previous position was filled by Yoshinori Makino, formerly vice president of corporate planning, regional headquarters, the Americas. Manheimer will report to him regarding the Nars and Zirh brands. The appointments took effect Thursday.
Several other appointments were also announced. All are effective May 1. Maree Lavo has been appointed to the newly created position of executive director, sales development, for the prestige cosmetics division — which includes the Shiseido, Cle de Peau Beaute and Qiora brands.
Tomoko Yamagishi, formerly director of marketing, has been named executive director of marketing for the prestige cosmetics division. Leslie Shiro, most recently director of sales promotion, will assume the new role of executive director of sales promotion for the prestige cosmetics division. Yamagishi and Shiro will report directly to Manheimer. Lavo will report to Bruce Gephart, senior vice president of sales.
