NEW ALLIANCE: Andrew Miller, vice president of operations for Tommy Hilfiger, is leaving the company to form a consulting firm called Alliance Retail Services. Based in Katonah, N.Y., the company will consult with retailers and manufacturers on logistics and operations issues, Miller said. He added that he will also be working as head of U.S. sales for Alliance Hangers, which is based in Hong Kong. Miller worked at Hilfiger for three years, and before that was president and chief operating officer of Jenna Lane Inc. Prior to Lane, he was at Norton McNaughton for 16 years, and served as chief operating officer.
PARSONS HONORS KIMMEL: Parsons School of Design in New York will honor Sidney Kimmel, chairman and chief executive officer of Jones Apparel Group, at the school’s annual benefit and fashion show April 16. Kimmel is being recognized for his leadership in the fashion retail industry and for his philanthropic work, particularly in cancer research, the arts and education. The benefit will raise funds for scholarships and academic program needs.
SUIT SMART: Starting Sunday, Dress for Success New York will kick off its 5th annual “Clean Your Closet Week” by hosting various suit drives through March 24. Donations of gently worn women’s business suits can be brought to Eileen Fisher drop-off sites around Manhattan — at 1039 Madison Avenue, 341 Columbus Avenue, 166 Fifth Avenue and 395 West Broadway. The week will conclude with a job fair March 26 and a fund-raising dinner, hosted by Star Jones, April 8 at the Marriott Marquis Grand Ballroom. All proceeds will benefit Dress for Success, the nonprofit organization that provides interview suits and career counseling to women seeking employment.
