NEW YORK — Every store can use a lift in a tough business climate, and at Saks Fifth Avenue, the party spirit is as high as ever.
This spring, the Fifth Avenue flagship’s party planners are in high gear, with an event scheduled for just about every other Thursday, whether it’s to celebrate designers new to the selling floors or pre-celebrate summer in the Hamptons. Also coming up, an event for singles, called Quick Date, where people can meet a potential mate — or at least get a date for the weekend.
On Feb. 28, Saks had another installment of its Fab on Five series, welcoming six new designer labels to the contemporary mix: Alvin Valley, Jessie Della Femina, Shoshanna Lonstein, Milly Smith, Amy Smilovic for TIBI and Jill Stuart. The crowd of 300 enjoyed complimentary blow-outs, makeovers and mini massages, plus music spun by a deejay and a gift bag filled with special gift items from the designers. Along with the partying comes the serious side — Saks is encouraging shopping. For the two-hour event, sales reached a respectable $32,000.
