CASTILLO’S NEW DIGS
Byline: Julia Topolski
NEW YORK — This Wednesday, NoLIta will be welcoming its newest retail member with the opening of shoe designer Edmundo Castillo’s first boutique, on Mott Street. “It’s the ultimate shoe closet,” says the designer of the intimate, 380-square-foot space that was inspired by his own living room, where he showed his first collection two years ago. He plans to showcase each style in a top-lit cubby hole or on open Ferrari-red shelves. Winner of the CFDA Perry Ellis Best Accessories Designer award in 2001, he’s known for his super-sexy shoes, including this season’s goddess-like sandals with leaves that wrap artfully around the ankles, printed-canvas stilettoes with turquoise toe anchor, eyelet ballerina flats or brightly colored espadrilles. Retail prices range from $345 to $1,200.
