NEW YORK — Shoe brand Mootsies Tootsies is now offering legwear, too.
A division of Maxwell Shoe Co., the brand has licensed its name to hosiery firm Williams Management for a line of women’s legwear to bow at retail this fall.
“Mootsies Tootsies is a strong name in the moderate women’s channel and we feel there is a lot of potential in legwear,” said Bill Bell, president and owner of Williams, a five-year-old hosiery marketing and management company.
The line carries wholesale prices of $2 to $4 and includes a range of products. Among the 25 initial product offerings are trousers, knee-high and dress socks in argyles and stripes, as well as solid colors, some of which have border patterns.
The Mootsies Tootsies line is available in singles, two-packs and three-packs and will be in stores starting in July.
The line will be shown to buyers during May market.
Williams also makes legwear for the Rockport shoe label and produces products under private label. Targeted distribution includes moderate department stores such as Kohl’s and Mervyn’s as well as specialty shoe stores, Bell noted.
“We want to mirror the shoe distribution,” he said. “Our goal is to have distribution of between 800 and 1,000 doors.” He estimated first-year volume of between $1.5 million and $2 million.
