NEW YORK — Gae Marino, vice president of fashion marketing at Doneger Associates and a veteran of the buying office field, has left the company to pursue new career opportunities.
Marino was with Doneger for 15 years, worked closely with Abbey Doneger, president, and was instrumental in broadening the scope of its business, including creating the successful trend- forecasting division, Doneger Creative Services, and attracting new types of clients, like manufacturers and consumer-products firms. Her last day at Doneger was Friday.
“It’s very sad to leave. I’ve worked with Abbey for such a long time,” Marino said. “The hardest part is leaving friends and clients.”
Marino said she created the trend- forecasting division about 10 years ago, with David Wolfe, and really enjoyed building that business. “Now it can pretty much run itself. I’ve decided I like building a business, seeing something start and grow. I want to build another business for another company. I’ve worked with major retailers and manufacturers, and private labels and I know I can help a company build product.”
During her years at Doneger, Marino also held the title managing director of Doneger Creative Services, formerly called D3, until last year, and worked on new business development, client servicing, the international division, and public relations. “I’ve done pretty much everything I could do there,” she said.
Doneger was her second employer. Her first job was with the former Van Buren buying office, which became VBW Associates and was taken over by Doneger.
