WASHINGTON — Benetton’s fifth megastore in the U.S. opened here Thursday in Georgetown. All the other U.S. megastores operate in New York.
Soon after the first of the year, another megastore containing most of the Benetton and Sisley lines will open in New York, in Chelsea at 17th Street and Seventh Avenue.
The store is a renovation of a Benetton that’s been expanded from one to three floors and about 10,000 square feet. The store is in an old bank and is owned by licensee Iraklis Karabassis, who has the largest Benetton franchise in the U.S., with 65 stores. There are currently 102 Benetton units in the U.S.
David Rees, Benetton’s area manager for North America, said the company plans to open about 20 large-format stores in 2002.
