NEW YORK — Crunch now has its own signature magazine for people to read while on the exercise bike.
The 230-page lifestyle publication is available only to Crunch members at its 19 gyms. Juliette Lewis is the premiere issue’s cover girl. Published by Profile Pursuit, it hits newsstands at the end of next month with a $4.99 price tag and will also be offered to passengers on Jet Blue airlines. Subscriptions for the biannual magazine are $8.99.
Crunch chairman Doug Levin came up with the idea for a magazine of acceptance. Instead of pitching fitness tips and smoothie recipes, the publication takes a quirky approach.
As Brigit Bailey-Grant noted in her letter from the editor, “We’re ditching self-help in favor of glamour, gossip and gadgets.” Hence, the articles about celebrity chef Todd English boiling an egg, four slobs in a pub ponder running a marathon, cool stuff people can’t afford and the “Ask a Cabby” column.
There’s also plenty of fashion, including a spread of nonmodel types wearing Crunch T-shirts. More than half of the first issue is editorial.
