ANNE KLEIN’S NEW BAG: The Max Leather Group will produce women’s handbags, small leather goods and belts for Anne Klein New York and AK Anne Klein, beginning with fall under a new licensing deal.
“The new license with The Max Leather Group puts a significant portion of our accessories categories under one company,” said John D. Idol, chairman and chief executive officer of Kasper ASL Ltd., Anne Klein’s parent.
Idol added that the new accessories collection will prominently feature the signature lion’s head logo on many of its core groups. It will be supported by in-store fixtures and sales support, plus a national advertising campaign.
The deal terminates prior licensing agreements with Roma Industries for belts and Susan Gail, a division of Jaclyn Inc., for handbags and small leather goods. Neither licensee produced a spring collection for the brand. Jaclyn last month said it would close its Susan Gail handbag division, which had made Anne Klein bags, by June 2002. Susan Gail was expected to have revenues of $6 million for the year ending June, 2002.
Max Leather Group also makes and distributes accessories under the CK Calvin Klein, Carolee, DKNY, Guess and Nine West brands.
