GALLIANO SET FOR INNERWEAR
PARIS — Having demonstrated his skill with corsets in many ready-to-wear collections, John Galliano is finally ready to apply his name to lingerie.
The designer plans to unveil his signature innerwear collection at the Salon International de la Lingerie in Paris Jan. 25 to 28.
“It will be very Galliano,” declared Galliano president Valerie Hermann. “The collection will be about 70 pieces. We will be selling to the big department stores, specialty stores and our current clients.”
Hermann said prices have not been finalized, but will be in line with its competitors in the designer lingerie arena. The first deliveries will be for May 2002. The collection will be produced in-house.
The Galliano business has been on a fast track. The designer, who is backed by LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton and is also the couturier at Christian Dior, introduced a signature eyewear collection earlier this year, licensed to the French eyewear firm Airess, and launched an Internet boutique at eLuxury.com. As reported, he’s also working on a John Galliano fragrance and launching his first freestanding store in the world in Paris next year. Market sources said Galliano has zeroed in on a location on Rue Saint-Honore that could open in the first half of 2002.
