FAIRCHILD TAPS CONTI IN LONDON
NEW YORK — Samantha Conti has been named London bureau chief of Fairchild Publications.
Conti had shared co-bureau chief duties with Alessandra Ilari in Fairchild’s Milan office, a position she assumed in 1999. She joined the company in 1995 as a correspondent in Milan and was promoted to associate bureau chief in 1998.
During her Milan tenure, Conti’s spirited and aggressive coverage for WWD included a wide range of breaking news stories, such as LVMH’s long-running battle with Gucci Group, and, most recently, Prada’s financial difficulties, as well as in-depth features and profiles that captured the character of Italian fashion. Conti also wrote regular travel stories and profiles for W magazine, WWD’s sister publication, and helped cover the Italian men’s collections for Fairchild’s DNR.
In London, she succeeds James Fallon, who relocated to New York after being named editor of WWD in October. In her new position, Conti will contribute primarily to WWD and W, but will also report for Fairchild’s various publications.
A successor in Milan has not yet been appointed.
