GEORGE SIMONTON GOES PLATINUM

NEW YORK — George Simonton will break into the upper-bridge category with a new capsule collection of suits called George Simonton Platinum, bowing for fall.
The new line, which is an effort to reach a higher-end consumer than Simonton’s bridge suit collection, will wholesale for $295 to $350 and include 15 looks for the first season.
The Platinum collection features cashmere and wool blends, worsted wool and wool challis. Simonton has tailored the suits with higher armholes, narrower sleeves and a tighter fit throughout the garment.
The line will be targeted to better specialty stores that carry his bridge line, such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus and Jacobson Stores, with a planned distribution of about 350 doors. Karen Cohen, national sales director, predicted sales volume for the first season should reach more than $1 million.
