NEW YORK — Carol Meyrowitz has been promoted to president of The Marmaxx Group, putting her in charge of the day-to-day operations of the 1,200 TJX and Marshalls off-price stores nationwide.
The promotion was one of several announced Tuesday by The Marmaxx Group, the major operating unit of TJX Companies Inc.
Meyrowitz succeeds Richard Lesser, 66, who has become chairman of Marmaxx and will focus on strategic growth. Lesser continues as executive vice president of TJX and a member of the board of TJX Companies. He joined T.J. Maxx in January 1981 as senior vice president, general merchandise manager.
Meyrowitz, 46, was executive vice president of merchandising since February 2000. Prior to that, she was senior vice president of merchandising.
Ernie Herrman, 40, has been promoted to executive vice president over all merchandising for The Marmaxx Group, reporting to Meyrowitz. He was senior vice president of merchandising of the same group since 1998.
TJX Companies is the nation’s largest off-price retailer of apparel and home fashions. The company operates 662 T.J. Maxx, 536 Marshalls, 81 HomeGoods and 25 A.J. Wright stores in the U.S. In Canada, the company operates 117 Winners, and in Europe, 74 T.J. Maxx stores.
