BOTTEGA VENETA DUO LAUNCH OWN LABEL
MILAN — After working together for four years at Bottega Veneta, designers Edward Buchanan and Manuela Morin are launching their own, still unnamed ready-to-wear and accessories line.
The first collection, which Buchanan describes as “sexy and energetic,” will be shown to buyers and press during two invitation-only presentations on March 3 and 4 during women’s fashion week here.
“The collection is somewhat inspired by dance, and has both loose and form-fitting silhouettes,” said Buchanan, who helped launch the Bottega Veneta rtw line in 1997 and recently left the company. “This is a team effort. Manuela [Morin] and I both wanted to express ourselves in a different way — it’s less commercial than what we have done in the past.”
Unlike most rookie collections, the new collection will premiere with accessories. Morin, who will continue to work with Bottega Veneta, has designed some 40 styles of shoes and bags for the collection. The shoes are done in two extremes: flat or super high. Meanwhile the bags, done in suede and leather, range from round to linear shapes.
“We wanted to create a line that expressed the full idea of a woman, and that meant doing accessories,” Buchanan said.
Produced in Italy and designed by Buchanan, the rtw capsule collection features 45 pieces and includes recycled denims and shearlings, cashmere knits and trousers in napa leather. Colors range from deep violet to yellow to skin tones. While the collection hasn’t been priced yet, Buchanan said price points are competitive with designer apparel.
