Atlantans can now have a taste of South Florida in Buckhead, with the opening of Monty’s Stone Crab Seafood Restaurant.
Designed by Zakaspace Corp., the restaurant is tucked behind the Swissotel, across from Lenox Mall. Its sleek mahogany interior is dotted with model sailboats and includes an expansive bar area blazing with colorful lighting fixtures and artwork. Two private dining areas, with seating for up to 14 and 50, can be reserved.
Christian Watson, previously of the Atlanta Fish Market, Hal’s Inc. and Sotto Sotto, joined Monty’s in March as executive chef. The a la carte menu features seafood prepared with a Caribbean flair. Among the house specialties, Florida’s succulent stone crab claws come in a variety of sizes, as an appetizer or an entree. They arrive cracked and ready to dip into a tangy mustard sauce.
The starter menu includes a sampling of seafood, from conch to tuna to oysters, ranging in price from $7 to $12. As a starter, try the sherry-laced She Crab soup, made from Maryland blue crab. Entrees, priced from $18 to $39 include snapper, swordfish, grouper, and mahi mahi, filet mignon, steak and chicken dishes. Portions are extremely generous, especially when it comes to sides like hash browns, garlic spinach and sofrito rice. Feeling crabby but can’t make it to Monty’s?
