NEW YORK — Liz Claiborne Inc. has elected Arthur C. Martinez, the former chairman and chief executive officer of Sears, Roebuck, & Co., to the board of directors.
Martinez, 61, left Sears last year. Before holding the top post there, he was ceo of the Sears Merchandise Group. Prior to that, he was vice chairman at Saks Fifth Avenue. He also held key posts at Batus Inc., RCA Corp., Talley Industries and International Paper Co. Martinez started his career at Exxon.
“Arthur’s experience encompasses a wide spectrum of price points, attitudes and distribution channels,” Paul Charron, chairman and ceo of Claiborne, said in a statement Wednesday. “His extensive background in marketing and retailing will be a tremendous asset as we continue to pursue our multibrand, multichannel portfolio strategy.”
Liz Claiborne’s brands include Claiborne, Crazy Horse, Curve, Dana Buchman, Elisabeth, Emma James, First Issue, Laundry by Shelli Segal, Liz Claiborne, Lucky Brand, Monet, Niki Taylor, Russ, Sigrid Olsen and Villager.
In addition, the company is licensed to produce and sell men’s and women’s collections of DKNY, DKNY Active and City DKNY in the Western Hemisphere. The company is also licensed to produce women’s wear under the Kenneth Cole New York, and Reaction Kenneth Cole brand names.
