NEW YORK — The Fragrance Foundation has called in some professionals to help transform the upcoming FiFi Awards from a basic industry affair to a slick ceremony. Performer Gregory Hines will cohost the awards on June 5 with Annette Green, president of the foundation, and the Radio City Rockettes will open and close the event.
Not only is it the first time a celebrity will share the hosting chores, but it is also the first time the foundation will use the services of a producer, director and scriptwriter and sell tickets to non-industry guests. “This is show business all the way, kid,” said Green. “Now that the public is invited, we’re trying to make it less industry-skewed.”
In the past, the FiFi’s has been held at Lincoln Center, but due to problems with the location of the reception, the venue has been switched to Radio City Music Hall. The main floor of the hall holds 3,500. Attendance for last year’s event was 1,500. Tickets are priced $50, $75 and $125 apiece.
Celebrity presenters that have signed on so far include Joan Rivers, Wolfgang Puck, Rex Reed and Denyce Graves. Tickets go on sale Monday at the Radio City box office and through Ticketmaster.
