ROCK-A-BYE BABY: The rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle isn’t usually associated with babies and toddlers. But a new apparel line, created in part by Tico Torres, the drummer for Bon Jovi, is bringing a little bit of edge to the baby scene.
Torres is the co-owner of a new line called Rock-A-Baby along with Cinzia Spalletti, a former executive at Halston Baby, who serves as Rock-A-Baby’s designer and creative director.
Torres and a few hundred others launched the new line at the Puck building in New York’s SoHo neighborhood last week with a fashion show featuring baby models, as well as a strange mix of jugglers and circus performers.
“I wanted to do something different,” said Torres, who doesn’t have any children. “Everyone thinks their baby is a star.”
The line includes bodysuits, onesies, dresses and even tiny leather jackets, as well as shoes. Colors such as red, black and gray add a little spunk. Wholesale prices range from $13 to $45.
The line, which will launch for fall 2001, is being distributed in moderate and better stores, including Jacobson Stores, Fred Segal, Nordstrom and Saks Inc. divisions.
“There is a lot of merchandise for babies that looks the same,” Torres said. “We stayed away from pink and baby blue.”
