GALERIES SALES UP 5.8%
PARIS — Sales at French retail group Galeries Lafayette rose 5.8 percent last year to $5.3 billion.
Sales in the fourth quarter rose 4.2 percent to $1.4 billion. All dollar figures are converted from the franc at current exchange.
For the year, sales at the Galeries Lafayette department store group slipped 0.1 percent to $2.1 billion. Sales at the Prisunic and Monoprix variety store chains rose 4.6 percent to $2.2 billion.
Revenues from other activities, including services and credit card operations, rose 9.1 percent to $799.6 million.
The firm operates about 100 department stores under the Galeries Lafayette, Nouvelles Galeries and BHV banners and about 250 variety and discount stores.
French companies release sales and earnings separately. Galeries Lafayette is scheduled to disclose 2000 earnings on April 2.
