FOX TAPPED TO HEAD ADVANCE’S GOLF UNIT
NEW YORK — Mitchell B. Fox is going golfing.
The executive vice president of corporate sales for Conde Nast Publications has been named president and chief executive officer of Advance Publications’ new golf properties.
Fox will direct Golf Digest, Golf Digest Woman, Golf World, Golf World Business and GolfDigest.com.
The appointment to this newly created independent unit of Advance will become effective when the sale is completed on April 2.
Advance is the parent of Conde Nast and Fairchild Publications, which publishes WWD.
Advance agreed to purchase the golf properties from The New York Times Co. last week. Len Forman, president of The New York Times Co. magazine group — which consists of the golf properties — will stay with the Times in an unspecified capacity, said a Times spokeswoman.
Fox joined Conde Nast in 1989 as publisher of Details, a post he held for five years. In 1994, he was named publisher of Vanity Fair and in 1999 was named to his current post.
Steven T. Binder, vice president of corporate sales at Conde Nast, will succeed Fox as senior vice president of corporate sales.
Binder was named vice president of corporate sales in November 1999, prior to which he was associate publisher of Allure.
Earlier, he was with Hachette Filipacchi Magazines, where he was vice president and executive publisher of Mirabella, and before that, he served as Hachette’s vice president of corporate sales and regional sales director.
