NEW YORK — Magic International said Monday it has rescheduled the International Fashion Fabric Exhibition from early May to April 2 to 4 — dates which coincide with Urban Expositions’ inaugural Material World New York show.
IFFE will be held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center on Manhattan’s West Side, while Material World will take place a mile uptown at Pier 94.
According to IFFE show manager Amy Bonomi, the decision to move up the three-day event “was not a conscious decision to make it the same date as Material World,” but a move to appease exhibitors and attendees.
“It was in response to our exhibitors and attendees that had said to us they wanted an earlier show,” she said. “They felt May was getting out of the true buying season for them…and with everything being anticipated in the marketplace — from the runway collection to trade shows in Europe — they said they needed an earlier show date.”
Bonomi said IFFE officials did not have much flexibility in securing a date since “getting space at Javits is a very difficult thing to do.”
“It is a very difficult task to move a show of this size,” she said. “So we are showing our desire to respond to what people are asking us to do and to make the show the way the market needs it to be.”
Bonomi acknowledged that this could be tricky for companies who’ve signed up to exhibit at both shows: “Certainly for exhibitors that have signed up for both, it is a bit of a stress, but the exhibitors that we have spoken to are ultimately happy.”
