GUCCI SAID BUYING BACK THREE STORES
MILAN — Gucci Group has bought back three Gucci franchises in Barcelona, Madrid and Bilbao, Spain, WWD has learned.
While a Gucci spokesman declined to comment, sources said the firm was expected to make an announcement early next week.
The purchase of the Spanish stores is part of Gucci’s overall strategy of owning production and distribution outlets to better control the brand. In the third quarter of 2000, sales from Gucci’s directly operated stores accounted for nearly 70 percent of all sales.
