MARTINEZ EXITS REEBOK
NEW YORK — Angel Martinez, a 21-year veteran of Reebok International, has resigned as executive vice president and chief marketing officer.
Martinez, believed to be the heir apparent to founder and chief executive officer Paul Fireman, plans to move back to Los Angeles from Reebok’s headquarters in Canton, Mass., and spend more time with his family and explore other business options, according to a company statement.
Martinez, who was named president of Reebok’s fitness division in 1992, will exit the firm in June and will serve as a marketing consultant through the end of the year. Martinez is overseeing an internal and external search for his successor.
During his tenure at Reebok, Martinez was instrumental in the development of the brand’s bestselling Freestyle fitness shoes, the development of a Human Rights Program and the turnaround of the Rockport label. He served as president and ceo of Rockport from 1994 through 1998.
