RLX POLO TAPS WORTH EXEC VP
NEW YORK — Read Worth has joined Ralph Lauren as senior vice president of RLX Polo Sport.
Worth oversees sales, merchandising, marketing, public relations, product research and development for RLX, the designer’s performance-oriented technical brand. He is based at the company’s New York office and reports to Joy Herfel, president of Polo brands.
Launched at about 250 specialty stores for spring 1999, RLX caters to sports enthusiasts.
To prove its mettle as a performance brand and to try to avoid being pegged as another designer trying to get in the activewear game, RLX sells to the specialty store market instead of relying on the core brand’s department store base. RLX also uses elite athletes for wear-testing and sponsors a variety of others, including Aspen Mountain’s 1,100 employees.
Worth assumes some of the responsibilities previously handled by Jordan Wand, who resigned from the company as vice president in August to join Nike.
Most recently, Worth was senior vice president of the Venator Group, where he managed the development of private label for such distribution channels as Foot Locker, Lady Foot Locker and Champs.
