PARIS — Acting quickly to build its production capacity, Louis Vuitton said Tuesday it plans to add 100 workers at its workshops in the city of Conde, in southwestern France.
LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton had indicated in an analysts’ conference here last month that boosting Vuitton’s capacity would be a priority in 2001, as its inability to meet demand during the fourth quarter of last year resulted in a restricted sales growth for that period of 19 percent.
Vuitton said it plans to rebuild one of its Vuitton facilities, which currently employs about 200 people and specializes in making small leather goods. Production at the new workshop site is expected at the beginning of next year.
Louis Vuitton employs 7,800 people, including 3,200 in France. The company is in the process of building four new workshops in France and Spain.
